Beth Gets Up On Stage

Last Sunday was Family Service @ church, and in the spirit of Advent, all the kids got together to make Christmas decorations and learn 3 or 4 fun songs with simple choreography thrown in, and led the singing at worship time.

Beth and her friend Daniel, at 4, were the youngest of the kids. We weren't really expecting her to memorize the lyrics to any of the songs, so we were surprised to see her lips moving when she stood with the others on stage. She's never been the one to stand in the front row when it comes to performing in public; she has actually declared to us, "I'm shy". When she was a toddler doing her first year-end concert in childcare, one glimpse of Mummy and Daddy in the audience was all it took for her to start crying and screaming for us. She absolutely refused to carry on with her item! So the next year we had to make our presence really low-key.

But I digress.

We know this year was different for Beth. You could tell she got a lot of fun out of being part of the team, even though she wasn't smiling or prancing around like the more extroverted kids. My aunt (who's visiting from Sg) was there to witness it all and capture everything on her camera for the folks back home.

And we know the lyrics made an impression, because Beth will suddenly burst into song at home, and with surprising accuracy:

You can tell your friends the Gospel with a candy cane

Let your love show-ho-ho
Let your faith grow-ho-ho
So everyone will know
Christ the King of Christmas!
