What Do The Ozzies Think of Singaporeans?

From this week's STAR local paper:

14 students from Werribee Secondary College have left Australia for their 3-week Eurasian adventure...STAR is pleased to feature journal excerpts and pictures from the trip over the coming weeks.

[Note: One of the stopovers was Singapore.]

Emily, Year 7
Today we went to Orchid (sic) Road. I did more today than I've done in my whole lifetime. I got myself a new mobile phone and some souvenirs, which were really cheap. My host family is the best.

Emily, Year 10
I'm in Singapore but I still can't quite believe it. My main impressions about Singapore so far: incomprehensibly clean; the people are friendly and polite; and the teenagers are incredibly street smart! There are fewer cars, but they are better quality. People actually walk places! The buses travel along tracks suspended above the road, which give a great view from above or below. The tickets are reusable and you get $1 for returning them. It's the best system! No Metcards scattered all over the floors.

Our students couldn't get over the size of the schools in Singapore. As Braedon put it, "Miss, they're more like universities."

Did you make a count of the many praiseworthy things said about Sg?
  • Great transport system
  • Great educational facilities
  • Great shopping, especially in the tourist belt
  • Clean streets (would they be as clean without our diligent roadsweepers, I wonder?)
  • Our people are friendly and polite and our young ones are super savvy
