Brought J to the Maternity and Child Health Centre yesterday for her 2-week review. MCHCs here are often located next to kinders - not sure why, probably for convenience. The one we went to is at Heathdale Kinder on Kookaburra Ave (part of the infamous Werribee "Birdcage" area).
The nurse weighed and measured J, tested her reflexes, asked about our family history with relation to hearing loss, and recorded her findings in J's blue Health Book. J now weighs 3.97 kg. That's a weight gain of 400g since birth, and 320g since the last in-home checkup by the nurse.
"Normally we're happy with a weight gain of 120g," smiled the nurse.
(I took the opportunity to hop on the scales as well. Was pleased to find that I've lost 10 kg. That leaves another 9 to go to get back to my pre-preg weight.)
We asked about J's daily battle with the hiccups.
"Just put her back on the breast, or give her some boiled water," was the advice.
We asked about the texture of J's poo (yellow, seedy, watery).
"That's what it should be."
We asked about the white coating on her tongue.
"It comes from gathering the milk into her mouth. It's not thrush. With thrush, you will see patches on the bottom lip."
So all's good. The next review is on 14 Feb (the 4-week review).
