The First School Run

The First School Run turned out to be more of an adventure than I bargained for.

First, we were late getting out of the house. Had to dab sunblock on Beth's face with one hand while cradling Bub (who was nursing) with the other.

Second, CA took off to work (his 1st day!) with the car...and the PRAM in it. :-) Debated whether it was less strenuous to walk with babe-in-arms or to use the baby basket a church friend had passed us.

Now, the basket is made of cotton and is super lightweight...but not with a 4 kilo weight in it. So there we were, me power lifting 5 kg in one arm and holding Beth by the hand as we made the 20-min trek on a really hot day. Good thing Bub enjoyed the rocking motion.

When we'd almost reached kinder, I had a Eureka! moment and thought, why not carry the basket over my shoulder like a tote? It was pure relief for my sore arm and so much less precarious for Bub. After dropping Beth off (and feeling tempted to hang around rather than brave the heat outside), I power walked back home, popped Bub on the floor to cool off near the fan, and set about boiling rice and chopping up vegs for lunch.

If I keep this up, I will soon develop really toned arms and shoulders...along with the ability to do a dozen things simultaneously, like blogging with one hand while cradling Bub! *wink*
