Got To Fight To Be A Citizen

WOULD-be citizens could be denied a chance to become an Australian if they ruled out going to war to defend the country.

A "practice" citizenship test asks applicants to identify a responsibility of every Australian citizen.

The only correct answer to the multi-choice question is: "Join with Australians to defend Australia and its way of life, should the need arise."

Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews said it was vital for prospective citizens to understand Australia.

"Before becoming a citizen it is reasonable to expect that a person will understand the core values that have helped to create a society that is stable yet dynamic, cohesive yet diverse," he said.

Prospective citizens must correctly answer 12 out of 20 multiple choice questions to become a citizen.
