2 days to the 3rd major move in a year.
SG-Bundoora, Bundoora-Werribee, now Werribee-Hoppers.
As I dragged the wheelie bin off the nature strip today after the weekly garbage collection by the Council, I reflected that this was the last time I would be doing so at this house.
I'm looking around as I type and realize we're back to living out of boxes, just like when our stuff arrived in April. That wasn't so long ago. In the 6 months since, we've managed to keep most of the non-essentials boxed up in the garage, but we've also managed to accumulate quite a lot more inside the house. How has that happened?
We've been making frequent trips to the new place to deposit boxes and stuff.
It's just as well the power and water supply are already set up there. On Mon, the power supply at our rental house was disconnected because of a stuff-up by overzealous me. We'd planned to move last Sat but it was shifted to the coming Sat, and I forgot to update our utilities provider!
When in trouble, look on the bright side, right? So we turned it into a bit of adventure for the girls. They were very good about it too, sitting in empty packing cartons playing Lego by torchlight while waiting for Daddy to return from work. Beth's only low points were when she couldn't read as it approached dusk, and when she realized she missed ABC Kids 2 days in a row.
On Mon night, we packed plates, utensils, frying pan, oil plus all the perishables we'd transferred to a chiller bag when the outage started, and cooked up a feast at our new place. The lovely stainless steel Smeg oven got a good christening.
Note to self:
Do NOT use "super fan forced" function for ordinary cooking! That's the fastest way to burn your food.
Tue was spent in an agony of constant trips outside to check the meter. When were they ever coming to reconnect the fuse?? Had a very low moment when my mobile phone battery died down to one shaky bar. Was worried that it would be completely dead by the time the utilities provider called back. The fuse was finally reconnected in the evening, joy of joys!
Am reminded of how grossly dependent we are on mod cons. Imagine not being able to open the fridge, cook a meal, use the phone, get on the Internet...for 2 whole days. All in, it was a good exercise in patience and family bonding, but I'm not sure I want to go through it again.
Every visit to our new home is a reaffirmation of how far we've come and how generously God has blessed us. When we hold the house keys, look at the huge SOLD sign that's still outside on the nature strip, walk through the house and wander out into the garden with its lemon, apple, peach, pear and olive trees, we can't help but think: This is our own little piece of the Great Aussie Dream. Wow.
Blessed be the God who can do more than we could ever ask or imagine.
