We have a new Prime Minister!

By now, you would know that the Aussies turned their backs on the Liberals led by John Howard, and voted in Kevin Rudd as their PM for the next 3 years.

My cousin and I turned on the TV on Sat night in time to catch the emotional but dignified speech John Howard made conceding defeat and accepting responsibility for the Coalition's disastrous results. It's the first time I've seen the human face of JH, and I felt great sympathy for the man. He's normally so cool and confident, to the point of seeming arrogant.

I was impressed by KR's victory speech.

Not the repeated references to "our great nation Australia", which sounded stilted after the 2nd time, but rather his gracious exhortation to the people to show their appreciation for JH's 33 years of public service, and his affirmation of the way Aussie democracy had been demonstrated.
