No Power? No Problem!

In the middle of pan frying chicken breast fillet with spring onion, there was a loud *POP*.
The light in the study area went out.

As did the power supply in the rest of the house.

And the street.

CA went out to the fuse box (obscurely hidden at the edge of the front garden along the boundary near our neighbour's driveway). There he bumped into said neighbour, who was outdoors for the same purpose.

Called Victoria Electricity and a recorded message said, "Hoppers Crossing outage. Cause unknown. Please call back 2 hours later for an update."

2 hours!!

We got out our array of torches, including the little plastic ones shaped like candles that we waved about at the recent Wyndham Carols by Candlelight event.

Beth said, "Why don't we eat out in the garden?"

So we set out the plates and cutlery, carried out the pot of soup, and had dinner alfresco.

By torchlight.

And fairy lights.

In our eagerness to not let any food in the fridge go to waste, we thought it was a good idea to have J's leftover birthday cheesecake and ice cream for supper. Mmm.

Beth promptly declared she couldn't eat any more dinner.
BUT she would like supper.

Made faint attempt to exert some parental discipline.

End result: we all had supper.

Only one thing was missing: coffee.

Cheesecake and ice cream with no coffee? How can?

"See lah, I said to make coffee just now. Now you'll have to boil water on the stove," grumbled CA.

We were all having a great time bonding when the lights came on again.
Too quickly, it seemed.
