It seems like only a blink ago that we were at Sunday Service, with the weekend drawing to an end and another week of school/home duties looming ahead.
It's now mid-week.
The Council garbage truck came by this morning on its weekly rounds.
Today was also Reading Day for me. It's a great joy to sit and read with 20 children and watch them progress from Level 1 upwards week by week. I am learning the children's names by heart and am getting quite fond of them. One boy said to me today, "I know who you are; you're Bethany's mother!" *Beam*
Glenn the Gardener came by yesterday for his monthly visit. We chatted about the holiday home he is building (literally!). He is at the stage of laying floorboards and doing the architraves and floor trims - all by himself, in true Better Homes & Gardens fashion.
On Monday, J and I were at church playgroup. J was - as usual - finding the other kids' lunchboxes more attractive than her own.
We celebrated Joshua's 2nd birthday at tea time. In Aus, the usual cheer at birthday parties is "Hip Hip...Hurray!", right after the Happy Birthday song.
The morning ended with songs the kids know and love. J can do the actions for Incy Wincy Spider, Twinkle Twinkle, Head and Shoulders Knees and Toes, and If You're Happy and You Know It. It's wonderful to see that spark of knowing in her eyes, that moment when brain interacts with stimulation and results in an appropriate response.
Finally got round to visiting my neighbour Rukshanta and her 3 kids. They were away for 6 weeks in Pakistan and have just returned. We went over to say hello, and ended up inviting them over for tea because the kids (hers and mine) were feeling restless and peckish after school.
Good thing I'd done a spot of baking over the weekend. The oat-and-sultana slice was particularly well received by R's youngest. A compliment cos her child has lots of food allergies and can't tolerate many of the ingredients that normally go into a baking recipe. R asked me for the recipe for the slice. A sign that I am well and truly maturing into an Auntie. Ha!
Tomorrow night is band practice. This Sunday is Family Service/Mother's Day celebration and we're all asked to wear something red.
CA announced at dinner that he's been asked to "take part" in the Service, meaning Pastor has dreamed up a script and given him a part to act out. Last time round it was the Three Amigos. Wonder what Paul has in store this time?
I wish they'd do something about the lighting in the sanctuary. It is simply not conducive to score reading at night, or any reading. The PA system has also had a few hiccups, which annoys our music director no end. Hopefully, it gets replaced soon, so that we can spend more time practising and less time fiddling with wires, amps, whether the sound is coming from front-of-house and...stuff. (You can tell I know nothing about sound engineering, can't you?)
This month, we have a friend from Sg to stay. Annie's from our home church PLCMC. It's great to be able to catch up on news from home and to be able to lapse into Singlish without having to think twice. Even though we've been away nearly 2 years, CA and I have lost none of our Singaporean-ness. Heng ah! :-)
Happy Mother's Day!
