So who's Timothy?
In the New Testament, Timothy is a young man who is the disciple of the Apostle Paul.
Paul writes Timothy two letters, 1 Timothy and 2 Timothy, encouraging him to carry on the good work of the ministry and practise the spiritual gifts he has been blessed with.
One of my favourite verses is where Paul exhorts his mentee thus:
1 Tim 4:12
Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but be an example for other believers in your speech, behavior, love, faithfulness, and purity.
Why am I talking about Timothy?
Yesterday was the last day of Term 2.
Beth was anxious to be rid of her backpack, which was crammed with stuff she'd been working on throughout the term.
Amongst the bit and pieces sticking out was a laminated green card and a badge with the school name and the words "Timothy Award".

At the bottom of the card was this verse:
The Scriptures are able to make you wise. And that wisdom tends to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. (2 Tim. 3:15)
I flipped over the card, and it said:
"Congratulations! This Timothy Badge is to be worn centred one cm above the logo on your school jumper for the remainder of this year.
At the end of the year, you may keep the badge as a memento of your achievement."
Beth casually mentioned that she was one of two students from her class called up on stage during Junior School assembly. The other was Ethan, a very well-mannered, good-tempered little boy who goes to the same Yamaha keyboard class as Beth.
"Did you smile and shake hands with the person who gave you the award?" I enquired.
"I couldn't! My hands were full. The two students who handed me the award and the badge had their hands full too. One was holding all the certificates, the other was holding the badges."
I love how blase and innocent Beth is about the external trappings of achievement.
More than that, I'm grateful, proud and happy about my little girl's achievement and excited about what else God has in store for His special creation!
