Beautiful Saturday

I'm reminded of an old song that goes "My my my, it's a beautiful day".

It's that sort of day today. Low of 9, high of 23.

It's been so mild we've been able to keep both the front and back doors open to let fresh air into the house. 2 days ago, it wouldn't have been possible.

The kids are dressed really lightly, I've dug my capris out of storage; the chill of winter seems so far removed it's almost as if it never happened.

The trees and shrubs in the backyard are in full bloom.

I've never been a plant lover, but I'm thrilled by the profusion of colour and spring life everywhere.

And the birdsong...it's probably the same bird that keeps singing, because it's the same song everyday. But it's such a lovely distraction when you get a bit busy doing mundane stuff.

This must have been how the garden was exactly a year ago when we first signed on the dotted line after seeing this house.

I still remember being somewhat enchanted by the Secret Garden-ish feel of the backyard.

One year on, most of the flora are still intact, minus the ones that were rotting or not fruiting properly.

The front garden is a riot of pink, white, orange, yellow and fuschia. What a colourful way to greet visitors.

I'm glad we bought a house with an established garden.

Left to our own devices, we would most likely have ended up with a Japanese-inspired garden. All concrete, pebbles and plants that look like they're there for symmetry rather than aesthetics.
