The 'Cool' Factor

I can live for two months on a good compliment. - Mark Twain

A couple of days ago, I dashed into school.

It was cold and windy, I was late, there was no time to think about how I looked.

As I flew down the corridor, I saw Hannah and we exchanged hi's.

Hannah is in Year 4 and she and her sister Sarah sometimes come in my car for a ride home.

She and I have had some interesting conversations.

Relating to young people.

It's the sort of thing you can't force. The sort of thing that grows and happens very slowly over time when you are thrown together in a confined space and you have no choice but to say something to break the awkward silences.

"I think your new hairstyle is cool," said Hannah, almost sotto voce.

"Gee thanks, Hannah," I beamed.

Did a 10 y.o. actually say that?

Then it must be true.

And because it's said by a 10 y.o., it's worth twice as much.

Does it mean that I am now officially 'cool'?

It wouldn't be a bad thing, considering I've always been a bit of a nerd among my peers.

Golly, I feel more pulled together than I've felt in a long long time.

Now that's what I call a good compliment.
