Thoughts on housing affordability

I like this Bernard Salt commentary which lends some balance and perspective to grumbles about home affordability.

What he's saying is: if all one can afford is to live 30 km from the city in the outer suburbs, then one would be better off doing that. At least you'll have the comfort of knowing you can afford the mortgage repayments. That makes more financial and psychological sense than to insist on living in an expensive Zone 1 suburb and struggle to meet mortgage repayments.
