Update: First Gynae Appointment

Went for my first gynae appt tonight.

The practice operates out of a house on Morris Road in Hoppers Crossing. In the suburbs, it is quite common for doctors, dentists, vets, chiropractors, naturopaths etc to have their practices in houses. Certainly made the visit feel less clinical.

The gynae asked some basic questions (Is this the 2nd bb? How many weeks are you? Did you have a normal delivery the first time? Have you done your blood sugar test? Gone for any ultrasound scans here? Taken the Down's Syndrome test?), took my blood pressure, and got me to lie down while he pressed down on my bump. He smiled and said, "Good size."

Then he wrote out instructions for me to undergo a 2-hr blood test at the Melbourne Pathology Centre in Bundoora (conveniently located @ Latrobe Uni Medical Centre, near where we live). Was this to determine if I have gestational diabetes, I asked. Yes, was the reply, and the outcome would determine what sort of follow-up was required afterwards.

My next appt is in 2 weeks, by which time I will hit 30 weeks. 30 weeks! This is suddenly going faster than it has all this time. Not sure I'm ready for the big day!
