This morning, the doorbell rang and Beth shouted, "I can see a shadow in the doorway!"
That's how we teach her to tell - without opening the door - if it's a phantom visitor (our doorbell sometimes goes off even when no one's outside) or a real one (usually the deliveryman).
Cheng Ann went to the door and lo and behold! There stood Valerie Driscoll from our church, "just wanting to see how Serena is doing - I'm not coming in."
Val and her hubby Tom live in the retirement village behind us, and she has often talked of popping by to visit. She makes the most lovely scones too. :)
"I told myself today that I simply have to find out where exactly you live...How are you doing?" she asked.
In 5 minutes, she was climbing back in the car, while Tom waved from the wheel.
This is what I love about Aussies, or maybe it's just the Aussies from my church. "Visiting just because" is a beautiful and generous gift of the heart, and one I want to pay forward to others who need it.
Speaking of visits, we just received an email from our friend back home that he and his girlfriend are coming this way at the end of Jan! That's another gift to look forward to. Thank you Lord :)
