The weather for the past 2 days has been a top of 15 deg.
When we walk to kinder, I can feel my ears going numb as the wind whistles past.
The girls invariably wear 2 layers plus a fleece jacket when we go out, and I'm not even sure that's enough.
We've had to let Scottie in in the evenings so he doesn't freeze out in the cold air, especially now that he's just had his coat shorn. Must say he looks very nice now; he was awfully scruffy before. CA's been trying out all sorts of makeshift shelters for S: a tent in the yard, tarp over the clothesline, but the wind just blows everything away...
He's got this woolly mat that's the exact same colours that he is (salt & pepper; we got it from the craft market at church), and he curls up on it by the front door looking very contented. Recently, he even acquired a little red thermal jacket (which he tries to remove with his teeth) and his own heater! How's that for a dog's life huh?
Here's what we think he might need since he doesn't exactly have a wind-proof kennel at the moment....

Speaking of wind... I used to puzzle at the unexplained trash on people's front lawns. Realized who the real culprit was when one of the kinder mums mentioned how the wind just blows trash all over the place. And then she got hold of a paper bag and went round picking up all the bits lying about the driveway, which made me feel quite ashamed of myself.
There are some definite blessings to the cold. For one, Baby J has been having nice long naps every day this week! And the talk is that the recent rainy spells mean the drought is at last behind us. They haven't lifted the Stage 3a water restrictions yet tho'.
