Sleepless At Night

The days of long naps and peaceful breaks for me are over.

J has been progressively sleeping less, both during the day and at night. This challenging development seems to coincide with her learning to crawl/sit up/eat solids. She's happiest when she's on her playmat trying out her different toys, with me working nearby, or lying on her tummy on Beth's bed while the rest of us do our own thing.

It's quite another thing getting her to stay quietly on her own.

She wakes at least 4x a night, and even nursing her is no guarantee she'll go back to sleep.

Today, she only settled down for a nap at 5 pm. The rest of the time, she would scream from her cot in that pitifully distressed manner, and she can go on for at least 1/2 hour each time. It's like a game of tug-of-war, and most times she wins. The crying stops as soon as she's picked up. And resumes as soon as you put her back in her cot. Almost like someone's pressed the Pause button.

Thank goodness I don't have to go to work in the morning...
