Mornington Peninsula

To celebrate CA's 25th, we spent 3 nights at Mornington Peninsula, on Melbourne's eastern bayside.

CA's friend owns a holiday home in Rye, which is fairly close to the western tip where Sorrento and Portsea are. The 3 BR cottage, which can sleep 11, has all the basic amenities plus a huge compound that Scottie romped in to his heart's content.

Not that he spent a lot of time there, since we were afraid he might be dog-napped, and took him along every time we went out.

Some things don't change. Scottie is still afraid of the water!

MP is an easy 3 hour drive from Werribee. We pretty much followed the highway: West Gate Bridge - Kings Road - St. Kilda Road - Nepean Highway.

The drive took us past all the bayside suburbs favoured by affluent Melburnians and sea changers: Brighton, Sandringham, Mentone, Frankston, Mt. Eliza, Mt. Martha. We "ooh"ed and "aah"ed at the houses and the amazing water views the residents must be getting from their bedroom windows.

On Day 1, we visited Arthurs Seat and had tea at the summit. The waiter was very excited about the biggest thing happening in his life then: his first baby was due any day!

On Day 2, we worked our way through the Enchanted Maze Garden.

We went round and round inside this one for a while...and never made it to the Zen Garden at the centre, which made perfectionist Beth very cross.

This one's called a Unicusal Maze because it has just one path. If you follow it, you end up where you started, so you can't get lost.

Beth tackled a couple of Brainteasers.

Just missed the cheese making demo at Red Hill Cheese Factory because we got there 1/2 hour before it closed. Was very tempted by the beautiful hand crafted wooden chopping boards.

Day 3's highlight: lunch at The Rocks @ windy Mornington Pier.

View from our table....

We love Mornington, yeah!
