It's not quite summer yet, but already the flies are a daily nuisance when we go out. Having citronella shrubs around the back door helps some, as does the citronella spray I pack when I take the kids out for a walk.
This week, the thermometer hit the 30's and the kinder kids had to stay indoors, probably because the UV index hit the High level.
Our friend came by on Sunday afternoon and remarked, "What? The cooler's not on?" Which led to a discussion about different types of cooling and how evaporative cooling (the kind we have in our house) works. It feels like aircon but works by drawing in the air from outside, so you're supposed to keep a couple of doors or windows open for it to work well.
This afternoon, I dug out a red sun dress with elephant prints which we bought Beth when we were in Phuket 3 years ago. Perfect for the weather. I also trimmed the overhanging tendrils curling over J's nape. Her hair's now short and China girl-like; that should help keep her cool.
